MAIN USE	Comparatives are used to compare two things and to highlight the superiority, inferiority, or equality of one term compared to another.	Los comparativos se utilizan para comparar dos cosas y resaltar la superioridad, inferioridad o igualdad de un término en comparación con otro.	For comparisons in larger groups, you must use the superlative. The superlative designates extremes: the best, the first, the worst, the last, etc.	Para comparaciones en grupos más grandes, debe usar el superlativo. El superlativo designa extremos: lo mejor, lo primero, lo peor, lo último, etc.
SUPERIORITY	a) Short adjectives: adj + -ER THAN Example: -Peter is taller than Sandra. -Derek Pierce is older than Julian.   b) Long adjectives: MORE + adj + THAN   Example: -A Ferrari is more expensive than a Mini. -David Pierce's car is more expensive than Connie's.	a) Adjetivos cortos: adj + -ER THAN Ejemplo: -Peter es más alto que Sandra. - Derek Pierce es mayor que Julian.   b) Adjetivos largos: MORE + adj + THAN Ejemplo: -Un Ferrari es más caro que un Mini. - El auto de David Pierce es más caro que el de Connie.	a) Short adjectives: THE + adj -EST Tom is the tallest boy of the school.   b) Long adjectives: THE MOST + adjective This is the most pleasant place on Earth!	a) Adjetivos cortos: THE + adj -EST Tom es el chico más alto de la escuela.   b) Adjetivos largos: EL MÁS + adjetivo ¡Este es el lugar más agradable de la Tierra!
	-Juan runs faster than Mark.(Juan corre más rápido que Mark.) -Angela’s room is cleaner than Sue’s.(La habitación de Angela está más limpia que la de Sue.) -I am taller than Beth.(Soy más alto que Beth.) -New York is bigger than Los Angeles.(Nueva York es más grande que Los Angeles.)
EQUALITY	Short & long adjectives: AS... adjective... AS English is as easy as German.	Adjetivos cortos y largos: AS... adjetivo... AS El inglés es tan fácil como el alemán.	Doesn't exist	No existe
	-Mark is as fast as Juan.(Mark corre tan rápido como Juan.)  -Sue’s room is as clean as Angela’s.(La habitación de Sue es tan limpia como la de Angela.)  -Beth is as tall as I am.(Beth es tan alta como yo.)  -Los Angeles is as big as New York.(Los Angeles es tan grande como Nueva York.)
INFERIORITY	Short & long adjectives: LESS + adjectif + THAN July is less cold than January.	Adjetivos cortos y largos: MENOS + adjetivo + QUE Julio es menos frío que enero.	Short & long adjectives: THE LEAST + adjective This is the least interesting movie of the year!	Adjetivos cortos y largos: EL MENOS + adjetivo ¡Esta es la película menos interesante del año!
	-Mark is not as fast as Juan.(Mark no corre tan rápido como Juan.)  -Sue’s room is less clean than Angela’s.(La habitación de Sue no es tan limpia como la de Angela.)  -Beth is not as tall as me.(Beth no es tan alta como yo.)  -Los Angeles is not as big as New York.(Los Angeles no es tan grande como Nueva York.)

NOTES: Short adjectives: 1 syllable (eg: young) + 2-syllable adjectives ending in -y (eg: pretty) Long adjectives: all the other adjectives

COMPARATIVES: -If the adjective ends in "--y" the "y" becomes "i" : heavy --> heavier. / Si el adjetivo termina en "--y", la "y" se convierte en "i": Pesado -> más pesado.. -If the adjective ends in "--e" only an "r" is needed: wise --> wiser. / Si el adjetivo termina en "--e" solo se necesita una "r": Sabio -> más sabio. -If the adjective ends with "single vowel + consonant" the consonant is doubled and one adds "--er" : big --> bigger. / Si el adjetivo termina con "vocal simple + consonante", la consonante se duplica y se agrega "--er": grande --> más grande -Some very common adjectives have irregular comparatives: good --> better | bad --> worse | far --> farther. / Algunos adjetivos muy comunes tienen comparativos irregulares: bueno --> mejor | mal --> peor | lejos --> más lejos

SUPERLATIVES: Irregular forms:         good --> the best ·        bad --> the worst ·        far --> the farthest. / Formas irregulares: bueno --> lo mejor · malo --> lo peor · lejos --> lo más lejano

MORE EXAMPLES -My mother is as intelligent as me. (Mi madre es tan inteligente como yo.) -He's not as tall as Santiago. (Él no es tan alto como Santi.) -I'm less tall than you. (Yo soy menos alto que tú.) -This exam is more difficult than the last one. (Este examen es más difícil que el último.) -You are taller than Steve. (Tú eres más alto que John.) -Carla is the tallest girl of the group. (Carla es la chica más alta del grupo.) -He is the most beautiful boy in the world. (Él es el chico más guapo del mundo.) -Today is the worst day of the year. (Hoy es el peor día del año.) -You are better than me at Maths. (Tú eres mejor que yo en mates.)

COMPARATIVES SUPERLATIVES WITH ADJECTIVES
EXAMPLES/ EJEMPLOS -Carla is taller than Max. /Carla es más alta que Max. -Carla is the tallest of all the students. /Carla es la más alta de todos los estudiantes. -Max is older than Steve. / Max es mayor que Steve. -Of the three students, Max is the oldest. / De los tres estudiantes, Max es el mayor. -My hair is longer than your hair. /Mi pelo es más largo que tu pelo. -Max's story is the longest story I've ever heard. / La historia de Max es la historia más larga que he escuchado.
USE We use the comparative of superiority to compare two persons, two things or two objects. / Usamos el comparativo de superioridad para comparar dos personas, dos cosas o dos objetos.
The comparative of long adjectives. With long adjectives = adjectives of more than two syllables. / Con adjetivos largos = adjetivos de más de dos sílabas.   More + Adjective + than Example : My car is more comfortable than my friend's. / Mi coche es más cómodo que el de mi amigo.
The comparative of short adjectives With short adjectives = adjectives of one or two syllables. / Con adjetivos cortos = adjetivos de una o dos sílabas. adjective + er + than Example : February is shorter than January. / Febrero es más corto que enero. NB : good : better + than  Example : My computer is better than yours. / Mi computadora es mejor que la tuya.  bad : worse + than  Example : AIDS is worse than tuberculosis. / El SIDA es peor que la tuberculosis.

EXAMPLES/ EJEMPLOS -This morning is more peaceful than yesterday morning. /Esta mañana está más tranquila que ayer por la mañana. -Max's house in the mountains is the most peaceful in the world. /La casa de Max en las montañas es la más tranquila del mundo. -Max is more careful than Mike. /Max es más cuidadoso que Mike. -Jack is the most careful of all the taxi drivers. /Jack es el más cuidadoso de todos los taxistas. -Jill is more thoughtful than your sister. /Jill es más considerada que tu hermana. -Carla is the most thoughtful person I've ever met. /Carla es la persona más atenta que he conocido.
EXAMPLES/ EJEMPLOS -Steve is happier today than he was yesterday. / Steve es más feliz hoy que ayer. -Steve is the happiest boy in the world. /Steve es el chico más feliz del mundo. -Max is angrier than Carla. / Max está más enojado que Carla. -Max is the angriest of all of Steve's victims. /Max es el más enojado de todas las víctimas de Steve. -The roads in the town are narrower than the roads in the city. /Los caminos del pueblo son más angostos que los caminos de la ciudad. -This road is the narrowest of all the roads in California. / Esta carretera es la más estrecha de todas las carreteras de California.

EXAMPLES/ EJEMPLOS -Italian food is better than American food. / La comida italiana es mejor que la americana. -My dog is the best dog in the world. / Mi perro es el mejor perro del mundo. -My mother's cooking is worse than your mother's cooking. / La cocina de mi madre es peor que la de tu madre. -Of all the students in the class, Max is the worst. / De todos los estudiantes de la clase, Max es el peor. -I’ve got less money than Carla. / Tengo menos dinero que Carla. -Susan’s got the least money in her office. / Susan tiene la menor cantidad de dinero en su oficina.
EXAMPLES/ EJEMPLOS -Villages are less noisy than cities. (inferiority) / Los pueblos son menos ruidosos que las ciudades. (inferioridad) -Villages aren’t as noisy as cities. (equality) / Los pueblos no son tan ruidosos como las ciudades. (igualdad) -Cities are noisier than villages. (superiority) / Las ciudades son más ruidosas que los pueblos. (superioridad) -Zoe is less intelligent than Tom. (inferiority) / Zoe es menos inteligente que Tom. (inferioridad) -Zoe is not as intelligent as Tom. (equality) / Zoe no es tan inteligente como Tom. (igualdad)
